òòò½ÊÓÆµ Sand & Gravel (AS&G) has played a transformative role in supporting student learning and community engagement at Klatt Elementary. Through volunteerism, financial contributions, and hands-on involvement, AS&G has significantly enriched educational opportunities for students and families.
Their dedication is evident in their support for Klatt STEM Night, where they donate materials, organize activities, and provide volunteers to engage students in problem-solving and critical thinking. Additionally, AS&G’s funding has made it possible for Klatt’s 5th graders to attend Outdoor Science Camp, offering students immersive learning experiences beyond the classroom.

Celebrating Bayshore PTA – Spirit of Tomorrow Business Award Nominee!
The partnership between Bayshore PTA and Bayshore Elementary plays a vital role in supporting academic achievement and social-emotional development for students. Through classroom engagement, fundraising, and community events, the PTA enhances educational experiences while fostering a strong sense of school community.
The PTA funds reading and math tutoring programs, ensuring students receive essential academic support. They also sponsor literacy initiatives like Iditaread, promote STEM Night and Junior Achievement Day, and fund field trips that expose students to various learning opportunities. Additionally, they provide after-school programs in arts, sports, and music, helping students develop skills beyond the classroom.

Midnight Sun Service Dogs
Celebrating Midnight Sun Service Dogs – Spirit of Tomorrow Business Award Nominee!
At Williwaw Elementary, the partnership with Midnight Sun Service Dogs has made a profound impact on students and staff. Sheila, Jake, and Wanda generously volunteer their time each week, bringing therapy dogs Shida, Moose, and Gracie to provide emotional support, stress relief, and engagement for students.
Through whole-class lessons, small group sessions, and one-on-one interactions, students learn about therapy and service dogs, how to greet them, and their important roles. These visits have become an essential part of the school’s behavior intervention plans, helping students with trauma, behavioral challenges, and emotional regulation.
Beyond the classroom, the team also participates in family nights and parent-teacher conferences, creating deeper connections with students, families, and staff. The presence of therapy dogs has positively impacted staff well-being, offering a moment of calm during busy school days.

Amber has been instrumental in fostering a strong partnership between Romig Middle School and the Alaska World Affairs Council (AWAC). Through her dedication, she has facilitated opportunities for students to engage with international experts on global affairs, enhancing their understanding of global issues and cultures. By organizing field trips to AWAC events, she has enabled hundreds of students, including those from diverse backgrounds, to participate in these enriching experiences. These events not only provide valuable insights but also offer students the chance to practice professionalism in a real-world setting, preparing them for future endeavors. Furthermore, Amber's efforts have been recognized by the community, with her being named òòò½ÊÓÆµ Daily News Teacher of the Month in October 2023. Project SEARCH, ACT Program with ARC of òòò½ÊÓÆµ, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Governor’s Council on Disabilities and Special Education and Providence Alaska
Project SEARCH, established in 1996 at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, provides employment and educational opportunities for individuals with disabilities. òòò½ÊÓÆµ joined this collaborative program in 2010, involving the òòò½ÊÓÆµ School District (ASD) ACT Program, Providence Alaska Medical Center, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Arc of òòò½ÊÓÆµ, and the Governor’s Council on Disabilities and Special Education. Interns gain work experience across various departments at Providence Alaska Medical Center, preparing them for community employment. The program boasts an impressive success rate, with an overall employment outcome of 85.9%. This business-led, workplace-based program aligns with ASD’s career academies, enhancing relevance and impact. Providence Alaska Medical Center generously provides support, including workspace and mentorship opportunities. The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation offers employment support, while ARC of òòò½ÊÓÆµ provides job coaches and case management services. The Governor’s Council on Disabilities and Special Education ensures program oversight and professional development funding. Providence benefits by potentially hiring interns, while the wider òòò½ÊÓÆµ community gains skilled young adults ready for employment.

The Board and selection committee are pleased to honor Anne Adasiak-Andrew, Coordinator, Career and Technology Education with ASD to receive the Jim Utter Award for Excellence.In the years of service with SBP and with the òòò½ÊÓÆµ School District Anne has been an advocate for partnerships, programs and student success. For those of you that don’t know, Anne helped establish the French Immersion program and has worked tirelessly to support internships and champion the importance of diverse learning opportunities. She is a steadfast supporter of finding the right fit for interns with local businesses, following their progress and heralding their successes.
